Well life is short
And love is rare
And we all deserve to be happy while we’re here
I believe it’s a choice, something you decide, a posture of the heart. You can choose to let the world, politics, family, relationships, etc, etc weigh you down… You can do that, but it doesn’t have to consume you… You can still show concern, you can still BE concerned, but it doesn’t need to BE your only concern.
Take time to be concerned with what also make you happy, what makes you laugh, what brings you joy, what REALLY matters.
In no way am I saying this goes for 100% of the people out there, there are real struggles in life and true depression is very real. But just imagine if the rest of us had a more positive attitude on life, the people with real issues would be surrounded with more inspiration, more people they could lean on when they needed “some light” in their lives.
This is not a new concept…
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you your heart’s desires.
Commit everything you do to the Lord.
Trust him, and he will help you.
He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn,
and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.
Be still in the presence of the Lord,
and wait patiently for him to act.
Don’t worry about evil people who prosper
or fret about their wicked schemes.
Stop being angry! Turn from your rage!
Do not lose your temper— it only leads to harm.
For the wicked will be destroyed,
but those who trust in the Lord will possess the land.
Soon the wicked will disappear.
Though you look for them, they will be gone.
The lowly will possess the land and will live in peace and prosperity.
The wicked plot against the godly; they snarl at them in defiance.
But the Lord just laughs, for he sees their day of judgment coming.
Psalm 37: 4-13 (NLT)
And I am not saying this is easy, to make a choice to be happy and joyful. For some people you just can’t flip a switch. It takes practice and/or work, and it can be very hard to accomplish. It takes walking away from social media, turning off the news more. It means maybe spending less time with that person who always “drags you down”. Choosing this way also means looking for what “lifts” you, whether it be music, movies, different friends, spending more (or less) time with family or even just a walk in nature.
It happened this morning. It came in the form of this Little Big Town video, then writing these words, then sharing it with you. I made a choice to do that, and there’s a smile on my face you can’t see…
Whatever it is FOR YOU, try a little more happy in your life today…
Little Big Town are one of the most beautiful examples of making this choice! I have had the pleasure of working with them, and consider them friends. Their story is full of heart-break, frustration and some significant setbacks in their personal and professional lives. But it never stopped them, never “darkened” their outlook on life. And the end result right now, their perseverance they have shown, is beautiful and inspiring to so many of their fans, and to me in particular…
